Living and working in coastal areas means that inevitably, you will have a share of stories about an encounter or two with a cheeky seagull, anything from being stared at intensely from the sea wall to nearly losing your fish and chips!

We appreciate all wild and marine life, but as with all creatures, measures must be taken to manage growing populations.  Over the last couple of years, the issue in Scarborough has been growing, making it challenging for people to enjoy an outdoor bite to eat or dodge waste left on pavements.

We are pleased to be able to support the Scarborough South Bay Traders in identifying a way to manage the growing population of seagulls, and a hawk will be deployed safely over the coming months to deter nesting in places in and around the seafront and town centre.

While this is not a simple or quick solution, we have committed to the funding for 1 year to review it for 2025.

Scarborough Fund:  £20,000
