Planting Scheme

Working with the team at Bridlington In Bloom has been a fantastic experience since their relaunch in 2023 to create a new planting scheme to improve the appearance of the Old Town and Bridlington Town Centre.

Supplying businesses with 100 high-quality hanging baskets, each watered regularly and removed after the summer. To take part, a business commits to buying a basket or several baskets, plus whatever the business pays for, the same amount of baskets are given free of charge, plus free watering throughout the time they are in place.

By including watering and feeding, businesses do not have to ask their employees to climb steps, etc., to water baskets, which removes a host of issues.

The Bridlington In Bloom committee works closely with several local organisations, including the Brightening Up Bridlington volunteer environmental improvement group and ROBOT, to help deliver benefits in that area and further strengthen links between the town centre and Old Town.

The scheme aims to achieve:

• Much improved perception of Bridlington by visitors – creating a sense of wellbeing.
• Re-building civic pride from within the local community.
• Create a summer wildlife corridor habitat for bees and insects and enhance the environment.
• Strengthen the link between town centre and Old Town.
• Regain credibility within the In-Bloom niche tourism market.

Since the scheme’s success in 2023, Bridlington In Bloom has entered the resort in Yorkshire In Bloom (YIB) in the Large Coastal Towns Category, which could open up the tourism benefits that awards in that competition can bring. The support that we deliver to this scheme will help the town score highly with the judges in one of the three main areas of the contest, which accounts for 40% of the overall marks.

The scheme in 2023 was completely sold out, and we received a great deal of supportive feedback from the businesses involved and the general public, who appreciated the town’s transformation.
