What is the Old Parcels Office Artspace?

The Old Parcels Office Artspace is a new arts venue in Scarborough, comprising Artist Studios, Gallery, and Learning Space, housed in a grade II listed building on Scarborough Station which has been developed by Scarborough Studios.

Their aim is to support the cultural regeneration of Scarborough by making art more accessible; bringing high-quality art to Scarborough and by giving innovative artists and performers a platform to show their work in the region.

Who are Scarborough Studios?

Scarborough Studios CIO, a charitable organisation was founded in 2021 to oversee the running of the Old Parcels Office ArtSpace and its programmes.

This charitable organisation builds on the work of Scarborough Studios Ltd, a not-for-profit company, which has managed and fundraised the capital redevelopment of the Old Parcels Office, a grade II listed building on Scarborough railway station platform.

The Detail

To assist Scarborough Studios to develop the Old Parcels Office as a venue for new and existing artists to put on exhibitions, the YCBID initially provided funding which allowed for a number of exhibitions and artists’ talks to take place supported by an Arts Administrator. See the ‘Old Parcels Office Project Summary‘ below for details of this initial phase of funding.

YCBID have continued their support with an additional agreement to fund a further three exhibitions at the Old Parcels Office.

Who will benefit?

The investment will enable Scarborough Studios to bring life to this iconic building at Scarborough Train Station.

The investment will encourage a greater number of cultural tourists to the area. Working in partnership with local businesses and accommodation providers OPO will support the growth of these high-net-worth tourists as well as promote Scarborough’s cultural offer, making it an attractive place to work and live.

2020 – 2022 Investment £14,200 – this amount was amended to £13,000 due to changes in the exhibition programme

The additional funding for a further three exhibitions will allow OPO to continue to build on their connections with local businesses as they expand the cultural tourism offer for the area.

2022 Investment £7,400
