Not everyone is aware that Scarborough is home to the oldest house in Britian.

The Star Carr site was uncovered 10 years ago and is still revealing its secrets into life in the Middle Stone Age some 11,000 years ago.

Although visitors are unable to access the site directly, the Rotunda Museum is home to a collection of materials excavated from the site.

This is an example of how a significant site such as Star Carr could form part of a ‘History Itinerary’ which visitors could enjoy as part of the Yorkshire Coastal Route whilst they travel the length and breadth of our coast, unlocking many other historical sites and museums along the way.
