The government have confirmed that single-use items such as plastic cutlery, plates and trays are to be banned in England.

In a bid to reduce pollution, plastic items, including takeaway food and drink containers and cutlery, are set to be banned as they account for the largest share of litter in the world’s oceans.

Thérèse Coffey, the environment secretary, has confirmed the ban, but no date has been released as yet. England will follow in the steps of Scotland, Wales and the rest of Europe, which have already implemented these changes.
