The new exhibition at the Old Parcel’s Office ‘MATERIAL TRUTHS – Exploring the Substance of Sculpture’ begins today and will run until 21st April, featuring work by twenty-two members of the North of England and Scottish Royal Society of Sculptors.

Exploring how different materials artists use when creating sculptures can impact the viewer’s experience and engagement with its presence and how materials and their unique qualities will often determine the form and narrative of an artist’s work.

Truth to Materials was of fundamental importance to Henry Moore, who stated, “Every material has its own individual qualities. It is only when the sculptor works direct when there is an active relationship with his material, that the material can take its part in the shaping of an idea”.

This exhibition seeks to freely explore individual members’ material truths to be uncovered by the observer, and we are delighted to support this new superb exhibition this Spring.
