The Survivor lands in Withernsea on 29 April

As part of the epic reinvention of the story of the Trojan Wars, Animated Objects will be bringing a larger than life visitor to the coast this summer.

The Survivor is a large scale puppet that will be visiting a number of destinations along the Yorkshire Coast in April and May 2022.

She is displaced; a survivor of conflict in the Trojan Wars; and she has washed up on a shore unfamiliar to her. She is lost; frightened and alone.
We will be welcoming her in each town with artworks, music, and spoken word created by people from The Yorkshire Coast as she arrives.

She will explore her surroundings. And she will be offered shelter.

Each day’s performance will begin in the morning at the water’s edge.

There will then be the creation of large-scale sand art as she slowly makes her way to shelter.

In the early afternoon she will stand and take her first steps in each town before being welcomed with music, spoken word and a beautiful blanket artwork made by volunteers from The Yorkshire Coast.

We will also learn more of her story and her name.

The Survivor stands at 5 metres tall – she’s a spectacular sight when in motion, and something on a scale rarely seen along our coast. She’ll be in each town for several hours, allowing visitors the opportunity to dip in and out of watching her story unfold and experience what each town has to offer.

Her journey will bring her to the following destinations:

Withernsea Friday 29th April
Hornsea Saturday 30th April
Whitby Sunday 1st May
Filey Monday 2nd May
Bridlington Friday 6th May
Scarborough Saturday 7th May

And then, on Sunday 8th May, she will tour the length of The Yorkshire Coast on an open-topped bus, to explore even more of our beautiful countryside and coastline. Watch this space for details of the route coming soon.
