This year we supported Filey Town Council by providing them funding to create a great local event, celebrating the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, covering the costs of the PA and bands.

The event on Sunday, 7th May, took place in the wonderful Crescent Gardens and the area around the newly refurbished and decorated bandstand. Starting at 11 am until 4 pm, people were entertained by five very different bands and the North Yorkshire majorettes, with activities for children which included a pig race, hook a duck, quoits etc. Prizes and treats were given out to the children taking part in the games.

The weather, although hazy from a sea fret, allowed the sun to shine through and stay dry during the whole afternoon. This was fabulous as it allowed those who attended to sit back and relax and enjoy their picnics whilst being entertained by the music and the wonderful debut performance of a new Filey Group, the North Yorkshire Majorettes.

More than a thousand visitors were able to join in the day and the Council received very positive feedback on how enjoyable and well-organised the event had been. The event enabled all generations, residents and visitors to the town to come together and have fun. A day that will always be remembered and shows the best of Filey’s vibrant Community.

It was fantastic to be involved, and we look forward to other initiatives we could work on with Filey Town Council in the future.
