This year we extended our funding to the Bridlington Sailing Coble Preservation Society to expand their unique event last week in and around Bridlington Harbour.

While you can never rely on the weather, especially the wind on the Yorkshire Coast, several cobles could sail. They had journalists from the Yorkshire Post providing a unique insight into not only Bridlington from the sea but also the history behind cobles and why it is essential to preserve them.

You can read more about their experience here.

We were fortunate to meet members of the society at their annual get-together who had travelled from all over the UK, some to sail and others to take part and show their support. Over the weekend, there was live music and performances from our PA stage, which we took to the event, as well as a host of stalls and information provided by the museum and other interested groups, including Filey Bay 1779, who were there to share information about their ongoing work to highlight the internationally significant events that took place just off the coast, including the discovered shipwreck, thought to be the Bon Homme Richard.

We will add further updates about the event’s impact in the coming weeks and share the details of the annual celebration events in Filey in September.
