An exhibition of new work by artist Andi Dakin.
Dakin playfully fuses and combines printmaking and sculpture in these colourful, mischievous works made in response to the architecture of the Old Parcels Office.
Dakin takes manufactured objects and assigns them new roles through surface embellishment and combining them with other transformed objects. The artist invites us to find new meanings and aspects of their identity which may not have been previously noticed.
“My work has always been playful, colourful and loaded with mischief.
Whenever I have an exhibition of my work, I make new Artwork that is designed to have a purposeful connection with its exhibition context.
The three fireplaces in the Old Parcel Office have motivated New Sculpture for this show.
Many of the exhibits have connections with ‘fire and water’, the two essential ingredients needed to energise the steam trains that used to regularly power in and out of Scarborough Station.
The new roof lights in the Old Parcel Office, flooding the Exhibition Space with daylight are a glorious feature, and hopefully the twelve ‘Hanging Flue Brooms’ will enhance the architecture.
