It’ll be a case of ‘ice to see you’ on the North Yorkshire coast this Christmas as Scarborough gets an outdoor winter ice skating rink – 100 per cent real ice guaranteed – for the very first time.

We have partnered with stakeholders across the town to bring a jam-packed diary of activities straight to the high street.  Read below to find out exactly what Sparkle is being brought to Scarborough this year.

Bringing a dusting of sparkle and wonder to the town’s programme of festive events, the rink will be open in the heart of the town centre on North Street car park from Friday 3 December to Sunday 2 January.

The rink will provide a fun-filled winter wonderland skating experience for all ages and skill levels, with great music and lighting and stalls selling festive food and drink.

The venue will operate from 11 am to 8 pm Monday to Saturday and from 10 am until 7 pm each Sunday.

SBC has arranged the ice rink, which has been sponsored by Blue Raptor Signs and supported by Yorkshire Coast BID.

Tickets for a one-hour session, which includes time to get skates on and off, will cost £10 for adults and £8 for children aged four years old and above. However, residents of the borough of Scarborough a 20% discount on the full ticket price on Mondays to Thursdays.

The hire of skates is included in the price. Enthusiasts can bring their own skates if they prefer.

Booking tickets in advance on the ice rink’s website is essential. Payment by cash and card will not be available at the rink itself. Customers without internet access can call 01723 818111 to book over the phone. Local residents will need to provide their home address postcode to access the 20% discount.

Admission is on the hour, every hour, subject to availability. Skaters need to arrive 15 minutes before their booked time to allow for timely access to the ice.

There will be dedicated facilities for visitors with mobility issues, including wheelchair users, with more information available during the booking process.

For those seeking a peaceful and relaxing skating experience, low-sensory sessions will be held on Sundays at 10am, Tuesdays at 11am and Thursdays at 2pm. Music will be turned down and flashing lights switched off during these sessions.

Penguin skating aids for children are available to hire at the time of booking.

The ice rink location is well served by buses and is a short walk from Scarborough train station. Alternatively, car parking is available alongside the ice rick at North Street, Scarborough, YO11 1DE.

There are many other car parks within a short walk of the rink, some of which are free every day in December. Drivers can get information about car park locations and charges on our car park page.

Ticket holders will be able to access exclusive offers at the following food and drink venues: Embers Restaurant, Wackers Scarborough (fish and chips), The Green Room of Bar Street, The Cockpit, The Belly Rub, The View Restaurant, Steampuss Cat Lounge, Spencer’s Café, Sabroso Burrito and Nacho Bar, Scarborough Tandoori Restaurant and Mark’s Fish and Chips. Details about the offers are available on the ice rink website.

Cllr Jim Grieve, cabinet member for quality of life said:

“Scarborough’s first-ever real ice rink will be the perfect festive activity for first dates, play dates, best mates, colleague celebrations and fun for all the family!

“So many of us missed out on the excitement of getting together last Christmas so it’s time to get your skates on and make your group celebrations really count this year.

“After the many challenges the local economy has faced in the last twenty months, we’re delighted to provide an attraction that will encourage people into the town centre, who are then likely to go on to spend in neighbouring retail and hospitality businesses.”
